The Art of Conversation

Dear Miss U,
Hello! I am in a LDR and I don’t know what to do in order to keep the flame burning. I don’t want him to get bored. It’s hard because we seldom see each other. So we talk very much and that’s why I’m afraid he gets bored. What should I do to keep his interest in me? [read more]

When he says “nothing’s wrong” but you feel like everything is.

Dear Miss U,
My boyfriend moved out to California, and for the first six months everything was fine. But recently I have felt so lonely and isolated. He seems to only call when he is walking home. We haven’t had a date in months and haven’t Skyped either. I love him and I had planned to move out in a year and a half, but I feel like we have lost our passion. When we talk, the conversation is boring and dragging. I can’t seem to make him understand or be more active in our relationship… [read more]

What To Do When He Chooses Family Over You.

Dear Miss U,
My boyfriend and I see each other 3 weeks in the winter and 2 months during the summer. We make a huge effort to visit each other as much as we can, but our colleges are a plane ride away. He has decided to only visit his family this spring break. I understand that that is valid but I can’t help but feel a bit hurt and mad. When we get those few weeks/months together, he spends it with his family as well, so I always get the least amount of time… [read more]

How to Not Fear Cheating

Dear Miss U,
I have been in a LDR for 1 year and 3 months and I think I am anxious. I mean, I often think, “What if he would cheat on me?” I am very scared. What should I do to get rid of this anxiety? I think he’s a good guy, but I don’t know him 100% and you know… you can never be sure of someone. What should I do to stop worrying? I tried to stop thinking about it, but it doesn’t work… [read more]

Live for Yourself

Dear Miss U,
…I recently went to see him behind my parents back while I am in college. After that, I decided to tell my mother and she does not approve one bit. She says he is not someone that can help me in life because he does not have money (What do you expect Haiti is a poor country). He is just gonna leave me and I need to get the idea of being with him out of my head because if it is for her and my father, that relationship will never happen. I plan on bringing him here, but I know that once I do that, I will get shunned by my family. Is there anything I can do to show her that it is not about money? I do not want her to stress me and somehow force me to leave him, but I also do not want to ruin my relationship with my mother… [read more]

Is it Too Soon to Think of Marriage?

Dear Miss U,
…He is stationed in Hawaii which is 4,000 miles away from where I live. He recently has been talking about getting married and building a family together. I don’t know what to do, it honestly takes me by surprise. No one has ever talked to me about marriage before in a way that he does. I don’t know what I feel about it. I’m so happy but at the same time afraid and mixed with many other emotions. We haven’t met each other’s families yet and I hesitate a lot in doing so because I have a big problem in meeting families in general. My guy knows that and it shows that he feels bad about it, but he completely understands me. He said he’s willing to wait until I’m ready. A few days later, I told 2 of my sisters what he said and they said it’s too soon… [read more]

Gratitude & Attitude

Dear Miss U,
This question is a bit personal, but I don’t know what else to do. My LDR is temporary (a 6-month study abroad term). We had counted on our sex life continuing naturally through Skype and etc, but every time we try it just makes both of us feel sad and even further apart than before. I don’t know how to stop both of us from comparing our long-distance intimacy to what it’s like being actually together… [read more]

Party Girl

Dear Miss U,
I met him in 2014, through Instagram; we became friends since then, but just started to actually date in July 2016. I live in Brazil, and he lives in the US. I got into college last year, and it’s been really hard for him to deal with me wanting to go to parties and go out with my friends, mainly to drink. I haven’t done anything wrong, but he says he doesn’t want me around situations that could help something bad to happen. At one of the parties I went to, with his consent, he suddenly broke up with me in the middle of the party through the phone… [read more]

Worries and Woes

Dear Miss U,
My boyfriend has decided to go to Australia for approximately 2 years. I am still in the UK and I feel the prospect of him staying out there daunting. We have had many chats about the future and if we would be better off breaking up, but we love each other too much and just can’t. We are set on making it work out, but it is so hard. Now because of him working and lack of contact, I have been getting really upset. I always think the worst and might not be making an effort even though I know he is just busy working… [read more]

The Error Of His Ways

Dear Miss U,
…The problem is; when we are apart, he thinks I’m with someone else or have other relationships. The accusations he has made are absurd and embarrassing. He also thinks I’m “too good for him.” It happens often. We argue daily about this almost. He says it’s his instincts and “they are always right.” [read more]
