Making New Friends

Dear Miss U,
I’ve been reading your columns for advice and I realize I’m in need of advice. You see, I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 1 1/2 years and we’re not doing so well. He lives 14 hours away and he’s working part time while I’m studying in my country. At first, communication was fine and we talk for quite a long while but as time went by, we slowly stop talking. He wasn’t working when we first started out but now he’s working to the point of exhaustion. Messages became a weekly thing. And sometimes I don’t even get up to a sentence before he leaves and not reply for at least another week…[read more]

Less Than Ideal Situations

Dear Miss U,
We have been dating for 6 Months and we live 1,000 Miles away from each other. A couple days ago he decided to end our relationship because he said I deserved to have someone to be around me on a daily basis instead of a guy who I can only see every couple months. I don’t want this relationship to end because he is the most amazing guy I have ever met despite the distance issue that we have. How do I get him to give this relationship a second chance. We broke up because of distance and what he thinks I deserve…[read more]

Playing the Long Game

Dear Miss U,
My boyfriend and I have been dating for 6 months. We met at school but I am transferring. We don’t live remotely close, he lives in SoCal and I’m from Seattle–our new schools will be the same distance as well. I know I love him but I am not confident in long distance, I don’t believe it’s worth it to see him for week-long vacations and weekends. I visited him this past week and all I could think of is that it was only temporary I would be able to hold him for another few months. I am in so much pain…[read more]

A Thing About Wanting

Dear Miss U,
I go to a school in Italy where many international students come visit for a semester. This semester this amazing girl came and I immediately started loving her personality and later her looks. I gave her first kiss, I was her first “thing” but unfortunately she didn’t want anything very official because she knew she was leaving in June. Towards the end of June it became more serious without anyone of us noticing. I’ve never felt this way towards anyone. I was the first to tell her I love you and that’s something I never told anyone….[read more]

A Matter Of Culture

Dear Miss U,
You have advised me before regarding my relationship and it was amazing advice. Thank you so much. I come from India and my custom don’t really approve of falling in love. My parents were looking for a groom for me for past few years and I felt like I was betraying them by not telling them about my so. I told them about him and everybody freaked out….[read more]

Maybe Not No

Dear Miss U,
My question is how do these relationships start? I met this guy a 9 days ago in my hometown, but he was spending his last week here. We met, fell for each other, and we both realized that we are the ones meant for each other… But we only had 6 days to spend together, which were the best days of our lives. Now he is gone, and we didn’t really have ‘the talk’ yet….[read more]

Active Listening

Dear Miss U,
My boyfriend and I have been dating for 8 years and we have been doing the long distance thing for about 5 years now. We occasionally got into arguments about the distance and it recently just got really bad. The past couple of weeks have been a screaming match because I don’t think he understands where I am coming from… [read more]

Dead Ends

Dear Miss U,
I have been in a rocky LDR for the past 3 years with a man from my hometown. He lives two states away now. We have broken up and gotten back together so many times. He even proposed to me a few months ago. We are not currently together anymore because he borrowed money from me 2 years ago and no payment. He gets emotional about me and always wants me to be with him again. I still love him, and I am struggling because of this… [read more]

The Test Of Time

Dear Miss U,
Around midway mark I started to feel taken for granted in the relationship. We see each other every 2 months due to her uni. Texting and calling has severely diminished. After fights I gave her space and only catch up at night but now she always just falls asleep without knowing because she’s too tired. She sometimes call for 10 mins while waiting for the bus or a friend in the day and she goes out at night and rinse repeat. During our anniversary getaway she made a birthday compilation video of all her friends that took 3 hours. When I told her that made me upset she lashed out calling me uptight and… [read more]

Not Happily Ever After

Dear Miss U,

My current husband and I were in a LDR for a year and a half, during which time I went to live abroad. We got married last year and he came to live in my country. When I met him I told him that I would be moving soon and he expressed a wish to start an LDR and move to the new country too. We closed the distance two months after getting married and he came. This is where all the problems started. He has been really homesick and has had trouble adjusting to the new country because he doesn’t speak the language yet. I have been trying to be supportive, but the thing is, he takes out his anger on me…. [read more]
