21. Create an email time capsule!

Did you know that you can send a message to your future selves or to each other? With FutureMe.org, you can write an email to yourself or your partner, and have it delivered at a later date. It's easy and free to use!

Write about your relationship, how much you love them, and maybe some of the fun memories you've made together. You could also jot down some thoughts about current struggles, so when the email arrives in the future, you can reflect on how far you've come. Imagine getting a message from your past self (or partner) on your future anniversary when you're together and no longer apart.

You choose when it gets delivered, all the way up until 2075! To send a future email to someone other than yourself, just register for free.

22. Take an online compatibility test.

SimilarMinds.com offers a compatibility test that you can take with one or more people. Fill out the form and they will send an email to whom you choose so they can take the test. Once you have both completed the test, you'll get an email that tells you your results. Want to know our results? Frank and I are 75% similar and 81% complementary. I hope that's good!

23. Make them cookies 🍪

It's always nice to receive things in the mail, especially when they're edible. I baked cookies for Frank a couple times while we were long distance and he loved it! It's been 14 years since we've been long distance and he still talks about the blondies I made and mailed to him while we were in college.

Just make sure that when you ship them, that they'll get to their destination within 2 days, if not overnight.

24. Share an online calendar.

Long-distance relationships can mean juggling different time zones and schedules, which is where a shared digital calendar comes in handy. Whether it’s planning your next visit, scheduling regular video calls, or marking important dates like anniversaries, having everything in one place helps both of you stay on the same page. With a shared calendar, you’ll both know what to expect and can plan your time together even when you’re far apart.

I recommend using Google Calendar—it’s simple to use, can sync across devices, and makes coordinating your schedules a breeze!

25. Send a drawing or handwritten message.

SketchToy is a free online drawing application that will replay anything you draw. When you're done, click "save," and it will let you share a replay of your drawing or copy the link to the drawing. Use it to write out sweet messages or draw funny things that will make him/her laugh 🙂 Here's a link to a message I wrote, so you can see it in action.

26. Go on a virtual vacation together.

You can visit faraway places with your partner without having to be together and without leaving your own homes! Pick the places you've always wanted to take a trip to and explore. Here is a great website to get you started! 360Cities.net They offer immersive 360-degree virtual tours of cities, streets, museums, restaurants, and more, all captured by VR photographers around the world. It's like you’re walking the streets of Paris or exploring Tokyo, all from your couch. You can even experience 360 VR of the northern lights or the 2024 eclipse.

Another semi-related idea? You can use Google Earth to explore different parts of the world together. You could even give each other virtual tours of your home towns, showing places that are meaningful to you, or spots you’d love your partner to visit one day!

27. Truth or Dare?

I thought this was such a great idea when someone mentioned they play this game with their long distance boyfriend: "I find that playing games over the phone keep things interesting and fun. We played truth or dare just last night and we both just collapse in laughter at the dares and the truths." This would also be great to play on webcam as well. Need help coming up with Truths and Dares? Here's a website where you can choose from G rated to X rated truths and dares, and they even have a couple's question category that you can select:

28. Surf the web together.

You’ve probably already browsed the internet together, but here’s a way to make it more fun. Head over to The Useless Web, a quirky site that will take you to random, often hilarious websites at the click of a button. It’s like internet roulette—you never know what you'll discover! Frank and I have spent hours just clicking through, laughing at the strange and unexpected sites we land on. You’ll quickly get hooked on the randomness, and it’s a fun way to pass time together.

29. Make something.

Homemade gifts are always special! Not only will your boyfriend/girlfriend appreciate the thought and effort you put into it, but it’s also a fun and rewarding experience to create something from scratch. Frank and I enjoy tapping into our creative sides to make personal gifts for each other. One time, Frank hand-stitched a stuffed animal for me—even though he’d never sewn before! I painted a picture of a cover of one of his all-time favorite albums.

If you can think of it, someone has probably made a tutorial video on Youtube, whether it's painting, watercoloring, drawing, clay art, etc. It's a great way to get inspiration and follow along with expert guidance to create something special.

30. Watch them walk by 😛

I once got Frank to walk by a public live webcam at his college. He trekked across campus just so I could see him walk by. It was awesome 🙂 I am so easily amused! If you go to college, many campuses have live public webcams. Search your school's website.

If you’re looking for more live cams, there are websites like EarthCam that let you explore thousands of public webcams around the world, from famous landmarks to street views.
